How our Richmond dental clinic has been designed from the ground up

At our Richmond dental clinic, we’re green, and we’re clean. We want to optimise patient and staff health. Watching this video takes you through a journey, from the reception area and dental suites right down to the building’s basement. You’ll also see first-hand what high-end, best-practice equipment we use to provide a patient experience like no other.

We said we’re green, right? It starts with our dental surgeries, which have a customised floor surface called Marmoleum, a particular type of floor covering sustainably made from raw materials and free from PVC particulates. Patients will see potted plants in each dental suite – not only are they easy on the eye, but they environmentally clean the air. Our firm commitment to decreasing our environmental footprint shows in our common area furnishings made from wool or leather and our natural Victorian ash hardwood floors.

Let’s look at how we’re clean. We’re really proud of our central suction system, which all our laboratory tools connect to, as well as the dental chairs in our five dental suites. Our laboratory tools include a fumigation cabinet, a dental lathe, a reverse osmosis machine (providing deionised water for autoclaves and the patient chairs in each dental suite) and a coffee machine. Yes, a coffee machine! We use its steamer arm to clean dental crowns.

Our machine room contains the dust extraction unit (central vacuum unit). We suspect we are the only dental clinic in Australia to use a dust extractor. We also recycle our amalgam so it doesn’t go into the sewerage system.

And finishing off in our basement, we have our air compression and filtration system, which filters oils, smells and moisture from the air within our dental suites. The air also passes through a refrigerated filtration system. Not only is clean and cool air better for the patient experience, but it also keeps our tools functioning correctly. Clean and cool air also allows for optimal bonding to occur when undertaking composite fillings on our patients.
