The daily grind can wear you down

With the next Star Wars movie about to launch we thought it was a good time to talk about the force. The force of your jaw.

Can you believe that the average male jaw is capable of exerting a force equivalent to 75kg between his chompers? The equivalent for females is 50kg. The tool used to measure this force is called a gnathodynamometer.

Given these high-pressure environments, most of which is compressed into where your jaws meet, it’s no surprise that clenching and tension in the jawline can lead to headaches and wearing away of the teeth.

The force is meant to be used for good, but if your force is causing you pain and discomfort then discuss it with our staff next time you’re in.

You could be suffering from Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ Dysfunction). Although many think this is an issue they should see a GP about. it is dentists who have studied and can help solve jaw issues.

The daily grind can wear you down

Teeth grinding is referred to as Bruxism. It’s an involuntary process that occurs more frequently while you sleep, but can also be a daily occurrence.

There are multiple causes which contribute to the issue, including:

  • Anxiety or Anger
  • Intense concentration
  • Illness
  • Incorrect tooth alignment
  • Recreational drug use
  • Teething in children

Teeth grinding wears away enamel and can expose the dentine inside the teeth, leading to sensitivity and eventual tooth loss if not addressed.
