We enjoy having a reputation for providing one of the best cosmetic teeth whitening treatments in Melbourne. Our professionally trained team love creating beautiful, white smiles. We always aim to give our patients honest, upfront assessments in any dental procedure. Teeth whitening procedures are no different: we ensure we offer a teeth whitening outcome that suits both the health and budget of all patients.

Further, we commit to delivering the best available teeth whitening service, which is why we’ve partnered with Philips to provide the Zoom teeth whitening product.

Zoom is an innovative laser teeth whitening system, using light-accelerated teeth bleaching technology. Zoom is a reputable brand, certified by the Australian Government Therapeutic Goods Act as safe to administer for whitening purposes.

Additionally, only dental practitioners can legally sell or use stronger hydrogen peroxide bleach, allowing us to provide ‘power bleaching’. Walk-in whitening clinics in retail centres are prohibited from administering the stronger bleach options.mend the best teeth whitening treatment to meet your needs.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving the appearance of teeth by applying a gel, which is then activated by lights or lasers (with precautions taken to protect the gums) that breaks down stains on the enamel and dentin, lightening the colour of your natural teeth.

How to whiten teeth?

‘How do I get whiter teeth?’ is a question we hear more and more at our Melbourne dental clinic. For the fastest whitening results, we offer in-chair laser whitening to achieve up to 8 shades lighter in about 90 minutes. Or, if you prefer to achieve the same results from the comfort of your own home and don’t mind it taking longer, we also offer the Zoom home teeth whitening kit. Patients using the at-home kit may take 7–14 days to achieve maximum results.

It takes longer to whiten your teeth at home because the hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent we supply in the kits operates at a regulated level. Dentists have the training to apply a higher concentration of peroxide than you could buy in over-the-counter whitening kits. However, staff at beauty salons and retail whitening premises don’t have the extra training to use hydrogen peroxide at higher concentrations to speed up the process.

So if you are looking for a brighter smile in less time, an in-chair whitening treatment, under the careful supervision of a dental practitioner, is the best way to go.

To maintain those dazzling, whiter teeth, we recommend using the Zoom do-it-yourself teeth whitening kit at home.

Teeth Whitening at the Dentist

We use one of Australia’s most advanced teeth whitening systems available. Philips Zoom leading-edge technology can give you the best teeth whitening result possible in 45 minutes. It is completely safe, painless and highly effective. The speed of the procedure has made it a very popular treatment option for people who are after quicker results than the take-home teeth whitening systems can offer.

Before any teeth whitening procedure we will undertake a free teeth whitening consultation to assess the health of your teeth and gums. If you have any oral health issues we will work to resolve those prior to whitening in order to achieve the safest and most consistent results.

The Philips Zoom unique hydrogen peroxide whitening gel Is applied inside trays which are carefully fitted to your teeth, protecting your gums. The hydrogen peroxide breaks down into stain fighting radicals that break the molecular bonds that make up stains on and in your teeth.

The intense light of the Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed Whitening LED Accelerator shining on the whitening gel helps your teeth whiten faster. We do multiple treatments consecutively within the 45 minute procedure to achieve results up to 8 shades whiter.

Zoom take-home teeth whitening

Richmond Fine Dentistry also offers professional teeth whitening solutions in the comfort and privacy of your own home using Philips Zoom DayWhite at-home teeth whitening kit.

Philips Zoom DayWhite Take Home Whitening Kit

take-home teeth whitening example
  • Pre-whitening consultation
  • Custom-made gel trays
  • 6 whitening gel syringes
  • 9.5-14% strength hydrogen peroxide (as assessed by a dental professional)
  • Maximum results in 7–14 days

During the pre-whitening consultation we will determine the strength of hydrogen peroxide that is suitable for your teeth. At times we may recommend another brand such as Opalescence Tooth Whitening Gel.

Opalescence contains carbamide peroxide bleaching agents. Carbamide peroxide is about a third of the strength of hydrogen peroxide but is more stable and the process takes longer. Both hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide have been clinically proven to be effective teeth whitening ingredients. You can be assured that we will always make the choice that is the healthiest option for you.

Frequently asked questions

One of the most commonly asked questions is ‘what does it cost to get my teeth professionally whitened?’ The great news is, we at Richmond Fine Dentistry offer exceptional quality and value teeth whitening products and versatile options.

Just remember when you are comparing pricing that not all treatments are the same when it come to teeth whitening. Sometimes others have hidden extras – they may charge one price for the take-home kit but have an additional fee for the consultation. Others try to compare 18% carbamide peroxide with 14% hydrogen peroxide, without clearly informing consumers that carbamide peroxide is only a third of the strength of hydrogen peroxide.

We have tried to make our teeth whitening pricing as clear and free from confusion as possible. The quantities used and the procedure embarked upon is all based on giving you satisfactory results, that are healthy and safe.

Side effects of teeth bleaching are minimal but sometimes people experience increased tooth sensitivity. This is usually a temporary side-effect that only lasts a few hours or days. Contact us to speak to a friendly staff member about sensitive teeth and products to reduce the effects.

Contact us for professional teeth whitening and personally experience what an amazing difference the safe and effective Philips ZOOM teeth whitening system can do for your smile.

The effects of teeth whitening will last anywhere from 6 months to 2-3 years. The whitening effects will fade sooner if you smoke, don’t brush and floss often, and consume staining substances such as red wine and coffee.

It will last longer if you minimise these substances and take good care of your oral health.

No. Teeth whitening is a procedure that lightens the enamel of your natural teeth via a gel. This does not affect the colour of dental crowns, veneers, or composite resin (white fillings).

If you wish for a crown, veneer, or fillings to match the colour of your teeth; you will need to discuss this with your dentist as additional work may be required.

Teeth whitening is not recommended for children under the age of 16, those with dental issues such as gum disease or cavities, and anyone who is pregnant.

Your dental professional can help you determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening.

The whitening gel we choose has undergone extensive testing to ensure it is completely safe for your teeth and gums. The only side effect some patients may experience is some sensitivity to the teeth, this should only last for several hours following the completion of your treatment. The most common cause of ongoing sensitivity is from wearing your trays too long or overfilling the trays with gel.

Should you experience severe tooth sensitivity while using your at home treatment, discontinue application for several days. The use of desensitising toothpaste and Tooth Mousse can alleviate the problem of sensitivity and toughen your enamel at the same time. If sensitivity continues, contact the Richmond Fine Dentistry office immediately for advice.

At-home teeth bleaching is applied using custom-made whitening trays, similar in appearance to a sports mouthguard only much finer. This will ensure they fit snugly over your teeth, allowing for maximum contact with your tooth’s enamel while still protecting your gums.

We will provide you with instructions on how to use your Philips Zoom teeth whitening gel and trays, including the amount of gel to apply in your trays and how long they should be worn, so you can achieve maximum results. It is possible to achieve the same final result using the take-home system as the in-chair treatment, however as the gel is not as concentrated it takes longer. A noticeable improvement can be seen after just a few days, but it may take 5–12 days to achieve your desired shade.

If you are in Melbourne and considering teeth whitening from dentist for faster in-chair laser whitening vest our Philips Zoom In-Chair Teeth Whitening page to learn more.

You can purchase other teeth whitening products online which contain peroxide. These products will lighten the colour of the tooth, but they can also burn the gums and cause a lot of sensitivity if they are stronger than certified strength or if they’re administered incorrectly.

“We had one instance where a client came in with green teeth after using a whitening product they had purchased overseas, so check that your whitening kits are safe and have been tested and approved by the Therapeutic Goods Act. Without that approval, you don’t know what you are putting in your mouth and into your body,” says Judy Harper, Business Manager.
